Rail maintenance the efficient way - with ROBEL

The British rail network operator Network Rail will in future deploy eight 60.70 Mobile Maintenance Systems from ROBEL

Track maintenance work under time pressure or at night time as well as maintaining high quality standards and cost efficiency at the same time are challenges that brought about Network Rail's decision to procure the ROBEL Mobile Maintenance Systems.

The system consisting of three compact units (Traction and Supply Unit, Intermediate Car and Mobile Maintenance Unit) provides a protected and mobile work area with direct access to the track. At the same time it supplies the required power and safely transports personnel, material and equipment to and from the work site. With the MMS, maintenance tasks, such as replacing closure rails, can be carried out, irrespective of the weather and time of day. It is not necessary to close the adjacent track.

ROBEL designed a system that is specifically tailored to customer requirements. This includes, for instance, a customised package of hand-operated machines and equipment as well as adaptation to the narrower British kinematic envelope and the third rail present in some areas.

The trialling exercise during which the customer tested the first completed MMS has been completed successfully. By now the frames of the fourth system are in production.
